Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack has confirmed the signing of former Rangers defender David Bates on his personal Twitter account, with the Dons waiting on paperwork returning from Germany before making it official.
The Pittodrie side reportedly agreed a fee with the German side earlier this week to bring the ex-Rangers stopper back to Scottish football and it appears that all that’s needed now is confirmation from the clubs.
Bates left Rangers shortly before the appointment of Steven Gerrard as he opted to move to Hamburg on a Bosman.
Bates would make 28 first-team appearances before rejecting the offer of a new contract at Rangers and leaving the club, also going on to make 28 appearances for Hamburg.
His time in Germany started off well but the defender has spent the last two seasons out on loan after falling out of favour with the fallen giants.
Since leaving Ibrox, Bates has won four caps for Scotland but has struggled to get into the international reckoning recently, missing out on Euro 2020.
The defender is thought to have agreed a three-year contract in the Granite City, joining the likes of Scott Brown, JET and Christian Ramirez as new faces in Stephen Glass’ squad.
The former Rangers defender won’t be involved today when Aberdeen face Ross County but could make his Dons debut away to Motherwell in a fortnight.
