Glasgow Rangers travel to Parkhead to take on Celtic in the Old Firm game this weekend.

Kirk Broadfoot has suggested to The Scottish Sun that seemingly Rangers-bound manager Pedro Caixinha is the one person who cannot lose no matter what the outcome from the Gers’ clash with Celtic this weekend.

Caixinha is set to be appointed as Mark Warburton’s successor at Ibrox (via Sky Sports) but is surely facing a race against time to be confirmed in the role if he hopes to take charge of the side in the Old Firm game this weekend.

And Broadfoot has suggested that regardless of whether Caixinha is in the dugout or not, he is in a no-lose situation at Parkhead. And he added that if his appointment is not even confirmed by the weekend, that may also be a plus for the Portuguese.

“If he wins at Celtic Park in his first match in charge, he’ll be an instant hero,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“If he loses, it’s the result that everyone expects and he can say honestly he’s only had a few days to prepare with the players.

“But the fact is that even if he isn’t appointed, he might still give Rangers a boost.

“The players who play at Celtic Park will know that, somewhere in the world, their new manager will be watching events. That could give them an added bit of focus and might be a good thing.”

While Broadfoot is confident that Caixinha’s reputation would not be harmed whatever the outcome if he did take to the dugout against the Hoops, a repeat of the result the last time the two clubs met at Celtic Park would surely hurt.

Graeme MurtyCurrent interim boss Graeme Murty

Most managers enjoy a honeymoon period when they take over a previously struggling side, and while the 46-year-old will certainly not get enough of a chance to implement too many ideas on the team before the game, a heavy defeat may still burst that bubble and leave Caixinha with something to prove this term.

And if current interim boss Graeme Murty does take charge and oversee an incredible victory, then the incoming manager will surely be under greater pressure to make an impact when he does take over as the Ibrox faithful may have begun to wonder whether Murty deserved more time to make an impression.
