On-loan Rangers midfielder Sean Goss has been excellent since his move to Ibrox.

Former Rangers defender Hugh Burns has told the club’s official podcast that January recruit Sean Goss is “an absolute gem” as the on-loan midfielder continues to shine in the middle of the park.

The 22-year-old, who was born in Germany but classes himself as an Englishman, joined the Gers on a temporary basis until the end of the season from English Championship side QPR.

He has hit the ground running at Ibrox, starting all seven of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership fixtures since the winter break and has even found the back of the net on two occasions.

Goss opened his account in the 2-1 loss to Hibernian before curling an exquisite left-footed free-kick into the corner during Tuesday night’s 4-1 win over St. Johnstone and ex-Light Blues defender Burns was effusive in his praise for the new star.

Burns also took a swipe at QPR, stating that Rangers are aiding his development because he is getting game time at Ibrox – something which he was not being afforded at his parent club.

“I think he’s getting better because he’s playing football,” Burns said. “At QPR he was in and out of things down there and on the fringes of stuff.

“He’s came here and realised of what a big club he is playing in the middle of the park for. Fans love to see that cultured left-sided midfield player that we’re craving.

“Give him the ball and he will pick a pass. For me, he is an absolute gem in there.”

Goss’ influence has coincided with an excellent run of form under Graeme Murty, with the Scottish giants winning six of their last seven league games – the loss to Neil Lennon’s Hibs being the only blot on an otherwise perfect form sheet.

A permanent deal for Goss could be unlikely though, after QPR manager Ian Holloway delivered a hands-off warning to Rangers over the long-term future of his young midfielder when speaking to the Daily Record.

The former Manchester United midfielder could be rested this weekend as the Gers go up against Scottish Championship side Falkirk in the sixth round of the Scottish Cup at Ibrox.
