Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has spoken out about the conduct of Celtic skipper Scott Brown in Sunday’s 2-1 Scottish Premiership win over their Old Firm rivals at Parkhead.

Brown faces a Scottish Football Association hearing over “not acting in the best interest of Scottish football”, seemingly referencing the incident involving him and Alfredo Morelos in the first half of the game, something which the Hoops say will defend “vigorously”.

The midfielder was struck by the Colombian’s arm, which resulted in a fifth red card of the season for the Gers man, some quarters suggesting that the Hoops man had provoked his opponent.

During the game, Brown was also shoved in the face by Ryan Kent, while at full time, after the Bhoys had sealed all three points thanks James Forrest’s late strike, he was involved in a confrontation with Andy Halliday.

Ferguson, who made close to 200 appearances for the Light Blues, said Brown celebrating in front of the visiting fans was a “stupid thing to do” but added that he was “hardly doing an Eric Cantona”, focusing his criticism mostly on the SFA and saying what he would have done instead.

“If it was down to me I’d get him up to Hampden and tell him not to be so stupid,” he wrote in the Daily Record. “Give him a warning and tell him he’ll be getting the book thrown at him if it happens again. It’s as simple as that.”

In addition, both Glasgow clubs have been served notices of complaint after a mass confrontation of players at the end of the game.
