Stuart McCall has admitted to The Scottish Sun that he didn’t see much ability in Rangers flop Kevin Mbabu.

The Swiss full-back had a loan spell with the Gers back in 2015 during McCall’s time at Ibrox, though he didn’t make a single appearance.

But Mbabu, whose parent club was Newcastle United at the time, has gone on to major things since his dreadful stint at Rangers.

The 24-year-old completed a £9 million move to Wolfsburg last month [The Sun] after impressing for Young Boys in his homeland in recent years.

And although McCall is ‘delighted’ for his former player, he admitted that Mbabu never ‘stood out’ during his time at Auchenhowie.

“Kevin Mbabu wasn’t someone who particularly stood out for me,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“I remember him playing in the reserves a couple of times, and in a Youth Cup Final against Celtic. He got taken off at half-time as he had been booked in the first half. He was a bit hot-headed.

“I didn’t see much in him at the time, but I am delighted for the boy and what he has achieved.”

Bigger and better things await Mbabu.

If he impresses in Germany, which he no doubt will, then bigger fish will come along and all of a sudden his failed stint at Rangers will become a lot more puzzling.

That being said, it isn’t on Rangers that he failed to make the grade. Even at Newcastle, Mbabu, who had injury problems, wasn’t a consistent performer and therefore it’s difficult to believe that flopping in Scotland is a reflection on the light Blues and not the player himself.
