Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha’s Ibrox future is already being debated.

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks the Gers job could be too big for Pedro Caixinha – and even compared him to Ronny Deila.

Rangers suffered complete embarrassment on Tuesday night, as they were remarkably beaten 2-0 away at Luxembourg-based Progres Niederkorn to end their Europa League dreams.

A matchup against the team who finished fourth in Luxembourg’s top flight last season was seen as a comfortable draw for Rangers, and they held a 1-0 lead from the first leg at Ibrox thanks to Kenny Miller’s winner.

However, Rangers’ 2-0 defeat on Tuesday night sends them tumbling out of the competition at the first hurdle with a 2-1 aggregate loss – and that has unsurprisingly piled the pressure on manager Pedro Caixinha.

Caixinha, who left Qatari side Al-Gharafa in March having been chosen as Mark Warburton’s successor at Rangers, endured a mixed start to life at Ibrox, but has overseen a major overhaul this summer.

With eight new signings secured and a ninth on the way in Graham Dorrans, this is a vastly different Rangers side to the one Caixinha inherited, and now dominated by players he has chosen to sign.

After Tuesday’s defeat though, many believe that Caixinha isn’t the right man for the job, and former Gers striker Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks the job may just be too big for the Portuguese manager.

Boyd even compared Caixinha to former Celtic boss Ronny Deila, who was often criticised for appearing out of his depth despite winning two league titles – and Boyd suggested that Rangers won’t sack Caixinha just yet, but the likes of Dorrans, Bruno Alves and Carlos Pena won’t solve all of his problems, predicting something of a bumpy ride for the Rangers boss.

“I can’t see them sacking Caixinha. They have invested too much in him for that. They let him spend millions on new players and allowed him to boot out the ones he didn’t want. Gers fans have yet to see three of the newcomers, with Bruno Alves, Carlos Pena and Graham Dorrans still to put on a Light Blue jersey. Make no mistake, these guys are not Sergio Ramos, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi, so don’t expect them to make everything rosy again.”

“I’ve said in the past that some of Paul le Guen’s decisions when he was Rangers manager suggested to me he didn’t want to be at the club. I don’t think that’s the case with Caixinha. Indeed, he strikes me as someone who knows he’s at the biggest club he’s ever likely to manage and wants to stay there as long as he possibly can. Ronny Deila, anyone? Is the job too big for him? I hate to say it, but it looks like it’s heading that way.”

“There’s no way to put a gloss on Gers’ defeat. Even fans who won’t hear a bad word against their club must realise this isn’t good enough. I can’t see them binning Caixinha now. He’ll argue his new players need time to bed in. I’m afraid you don’t get that time at Rangers,” he added.
