Jay Bothroyd says Tottenham’s Harry Kane cannot compare to Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Former Premier League striker and one-time England international Jay Bothroyd has claimed Harry Kane is not in Sergio Aguero’s class.

Kane has been in excellent form this season, leading the line for Tottenham Hotspur for a second successive year, and has helped the club rise above Manchester City in the Premier League table ahead of their clash this weekend.

Bothroyd, who began his career at Arsenal, believes there should not even be a comparison between the two forwards.

He was responding to a tweet posted by The Telegraph asking if either Kane or Aguero belonged in a list of the Premier League’s top 10 ever striker.

Kane’s scoring record over the past two seasons holds up well compared to Argentine international Aguero.

Aguero has 40 goals in his last 51 Premier League games, while Kane has 36 in 59 appearances.

Bothroyd, 33, currently plays for Japanese club Jubilo Iwata where he has scored 20 goals in 30 games. His most successful spell in England came with Cardiff City, later joining Queen’s Park Rangers and being loaned to Sheffield Wednesday before moving abroad.
