Newcastle United have garnered the reputation as a yoyo club over recent years.

Ex-Magpies player and coach Terry McDermott sat down for an exclusive interview with the Mirror, and shared his view that being relegated twice in seven years for a club the size of Newcastle is ‘astonishing’, and insisted that it must not be allowed to happened again.
The Tyneside outfit endured a woeful campaign in the Premier League last season that eventually culminated in their relegation to the Championship, but they have thrived under the stewardship of Rafa Benitez, and currently sit top of the table in England’s second tier, with a one point lead over second placed Brighton and Hove Albion.
And if, as expected, they do earn promotion back to the promised land, it will be vital for the club to remain in the top flight for a sustained period of time.
A notion that McDermott concurs with.
He spoke to the Mirror, and highlighted the importance of Newcastle establishing themselves as a top flight club once again:
“For a club of Newcastle’s size and history to have been relegated twice in seven years is astonishing, and it can’t be allowed to happen again.”
Rafa Benitez’ side face back-to-back home games against Wigan Athletic and Burton Albion respectively, when they return to action following the international break, and a return of six points from those outings would put them in a fantastic position to return to the top flight.
