Newcastle’s rivals Sunderland are struggling at the foot of the Championship.
Former Newcastle United defender Olivier Bernard has poked fan at bitter north east rivals Sunderland with a video on Twitter, as the Black Cats look all but relegated from the Championship.
Chris Coleman’s side look set to suffer back-to-back relegations as they sit in 23rd place in England’s second tier, seven points adrift of safety with only five league games left to play.
It has seen former Wales manager Chris Coleman struggle to turn things around after replacing Simon Grayson at the Stadium of Light helm, with the club now set to plummet into the third level of English football.
Bernard, who played as a left-back at Newcastle for five years between 2000 and 2005 before retiring early in 2007 aged just 28, posted a video mocking Sunderland’s plight as they look set to suffer another relegation.
In complete contrast, Newcastle gained promotion as champions from the Championship last season and have continued their rise under manager Rafa Benitez as they sit pretty in 10th position in the Premier League.
They need just one more win to cross the magic 40-point mark in order to secure their safety, after winning three games on the bounce against Leicester City, Huddersfield Town and Southampton. They face Arsenal on Sunday.
