Stephen Curry is still the Golden State Warriors’ top option, even as he gets closer to 38.

More players than ever are extending their careers, and the days of NBA stars retiring at 35 are long gone.

But playing so many minutes in the late stages of a career has its risks. The Warriors’ dependence on him has made Curry their primary scoring option once again.

Lou Williams suggests Curry may need a Ray Allen-style role to keep going

Early in the season, Curry is still managing to handle the workload. But we saw his body begin to break down during last year’s playoffs.

To avoid that happening again, former NBA player Lou Williams has an idea. He wants Steph to ease off as the main scorer and extend his playing days.

“He can be Ray Allen. He could turn into a third or fourth option on a team and be a spot-up or corner shooter. He could stretch defenses out and give a team an opportunity to get 3-pointers in.

“Nah, I don’t know if he would be able to guard anybody, so that he might be giving up twos for threes,” Williams said on Run It Back.

He added: “But if you look at his career and you look at how he can shoot the basketball, if Steph Curry is healthy enough, he could play for a number of years.”

After leaving the Boston Celtics, Ray Allen was no longer the main star on his team. Instead, he accepted a smaller role with the Miami Heat — where he won another title.

Even though he wasn’t one of their top players, Allen still made history in the 2013 NBA Finals by hitting one of the most iconic shots ever during Game 6 against the San Antonio Spurs.

Chandler Parsons says Stephen Curry could play until he’s 45

Chandler Parsons, who co-hosts the show alongside Williams and is also a former NBA player, went a step further. He suggested that Curry could still be playing in the league at 45.

“His game is going to age really, really good because a lot of these guys are based on athleticism; when they lose a step, they go downhill. The way Steph Curry shoots the ball, it’s crazy to say he could play till he’s 45 years old if he wants,” Parsons stated.

Curry isn’t thinking that far ahead yet. Right now, his attention is on helping the Warriors improve from their current 10-9 start to the regular season.
