Willie Miller has given his take on reported interest from Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in Lewis Ferguson, as quoted in The Glasgow Evening Times.

The Aberdeen legend, who both played for the club and managed them, does not think that his former side will welcome any interest from Rangers in the 20-year-old midfielder.

Rangers manager Gerrard wants to sign Ferguson for the Ibrox club in the summer transfer window, according to a report in The Scottish Sun in May.

Miller told The Glasgow Evening Times: “It’s down to managers’ opinions [on potential interest] and Steven Gerrard has his own.

“I’m sure he’ll be well briefed on the quality that Lewis has but he’s got to make the decision on if he needs that type of player or how he balances his squad and uses his resources.

“And also, there’s always the response he’s going to get from the club he’s got to ask for their player. I don’t think it would be a particularly welcome response from Aberdeen!”

Stats

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Ferguson scored one goal and provided five assists in 28 Scottish Premiership appearances for Aberdeen this season.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the midfielder scored six goals and provided seven assists in 33 league games for the Dons, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Good signing for Rangers?

Aberdeen are a big and ambitious club, and they may not be open to the idea of selling one of the best players.

However, the 20-year-old midfielder would be a good signing for Rangers, and would bring a certain degree of dynamism to the middle of the park for the Gers.
