Liverpool are expected to be busy during this month’s transfer window.

Ex-Reds ace Phil Babb was a guest on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily programme on Tuesday January 9th, and urged Jürgen Klopp to sign Roma ace Kevin Strootman and Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland with the money received from Philippe Coutinho’s sale to Barcelona.
Liverpool are flush with cash, in spite of the £75 million they laid out on Virgil van Dijk earlier this month, and it will be absolutely vital for them to reinvest the Coutinho money back into the playing squad, if they are to mount a sustained challenge for major honours on all fronts this term.

Babb, who made 173 appearances for the Reds, named the two players who he believes Klopp should be targeting this month, during a guest appearance on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily programme on Tuesday January 9th:
“6ft 2, a physical athlete he’s (Strootman) a very good central midfielder. I think this is the type of player Liverpool have missed this season, someone who can protect the defensive unit.”
He then went on to suggest Butland for the Anfield goalkeeping role:

“Jack Butland, great goalkeeper. 6ft 5in, he’s a fantastic goalkeeper, an England international, and a great age as well. Liverpool need a top, top goalkeeper and I think Butland could be one of those, and fill that gap at Liverpool.”
Whether either Roma or Stoke would be willing to sell the two aforementioned players is unclear, but one thing is for sure, they would both undoubtedly help improve the Merseyside outfit from a defensive perspective.
The Reds certainly have the financial muscle to tempt both clubs into selling, but whether Klopp will heed Babb’s advice remains to be seen.
