Crystal Palace could well be in the market for a free transfer, with the Croydon Advertiser speculating a new striker could fill the remaining vacant position in the club’s 25-man Premier League squad.

It was known that manager Frank de Boer wanted one more option in attack with Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham the only options in the role currently, but with deadline day having now come and gone a free agent is the only choice left.

So here are four forwards without a contract that the Eagles could consider.

Cheick Diabate

Not a well known name to fans in England, this 29-year-old scored 14 goals in 30 appearances last season on loan at Metz and with parent club Osmanlispor and has also starred for Bordeaux and Ajaccio in the past.

Rickie Lambert

In truth it has been three years since Lambert showed any type of decent form in the English top tier, having since struggled with Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City, but as an experienced backup option the 35-year-old could be worth a punt.

Claudio Pizarro

Now 38-years-old, Pizarro believes he has one more year in professional football and having been prolific almost wherever he has gone (no foreigner has more Bundesliga goals than his 191) perhaps Palace should ignore his age.

Giuseppe Rossi

Arguably the most tempting due to Rossi still only being 30 and having starred at the highest level with Fiorentina and Villarreal, but also possibly the most risky with the Italy international currently recovering from a cruciate ligament injury – the fourth of his career.
