Former Liverpool player Don Hutchison has urged his old side to sign Moises Caicedo after watching Chelsea enter the race for Romeo Lavia.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have made a £48m bid for Romeo Lavia, which follows three unsuccessful offers from Liverpool for the Southampton midfielder.

Hutchison is now urging Liverpool to turn their attention to Moises Caicedo, who he thinks is good enough to help the Reds to potentially win the Premier League title. On a post on Twitter, he said: “Liverpool getting outdone by Chelsea for Lavia (good player), but with the Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Ox, Milner wages no longer a factor, just buy Caicedo.

“In my opinion, with what Liverpool have bought and already got, they could win the league this season with him.”

If Liverpool are interested in Caicedo, they may have to move quickly. According to The Guardian, Chelsea are closing in on the signing of the Brighton & Hove Albion star.

Liverpool must be sick of Chelsea

By snapping up both Caicedo and Lavia this summer, Chelsea would be taking two very good midfielders off the market.

That would be a frustrating development for a club like Liverpool, who are obviously looking to strengthen their engine room right now after losing so many players there.

That being said, is Anfield really a viable destination for Caicedo? Probably not. His price tag is way too high and it is hard to imagine FSG paying it.

Last month, The Telegraph claimed that Brighton wanted more than £100m for the Ecuador international.

He would be a quality addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad and perhaps he could help Liverpool to win the title. But for various reasons, a switch to Anfield seems highly unlikely.

With that in mind, then, you suspect that it will be Lavia or someone else as Klopp looks to bring in another midfielder before the transfer window closes.
