Former Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has been told that he must accept a significant pay cut if he is to get a new deal at Fiorentina.
Alberto Aquilani will have to swallow his pride and accept a reduction in wages if he is to get a new deal at Fiorentina.
The 30-year-old was once seen as one of the brightest midfield prospects in Italy, but injury problems have severely dented his career.
Aquilani appeared to have been handed a big break when he signed for Liverpool for £17 million from Roma in 2009, but injury problems derailed him.
Liverpool loaned Aquilani to Juventus and AC Milan after the 2009-10 campaign and he signed for Fiorentina in the summer of 2012.
But Aquilani has become peripheral at Fiorentina and talks over a new contract to replace his current deal, which expires next summer, have been slow.
The paper believes that Aquilani will consider the proposition but won’t rule out the possibility that he could look to leave in January.
