Just four years removed from a Ryder Cup appearance, one DP World Tour player now finds himself fighting to keep his tour card.

Most of the headline events of 2025 are already behind us. Now, the attention has shifted to those players battling to retain their cards on both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour.

Bernd Wiesberger is among those feeling the pressure. He entered this week sitting 121st in the Race to Dubai standings, with Data Golf projecting that only the top 120 will hold onto their cards.

It has been quite a journey for the 40-year-old over these past few seasons.

Wiesberger had already spent a long time on the European circuit by the time he qualified automatically for the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.

2019 was the best year of his career, highlighted by three wins, including the Scottish Open.

However, his first Ryder Cup appearance did not go to plan. He was one of three European players who did not contribute any points, losing all three of his matches.

His singles match ended in a 2&1 defeat to Brooks Koepka.

Wiesberger’s journey back to the DP World Tour after LIV Golf

Wiesberger joined LIV Golf in 2022, following a similar path to several of his Ryder Cup teammates from Wisconsin.

During the 2023 season, he did not crack the top ten as a member of the Cleeks, with his best finish being 11th place in Jeddah.

After his contract was not renewed, Wiesberger returned to the DP World Tour for the start of the 2024 season. According to The Telegraph, LIV paid a £1.5 million fine to allow him to rejoin.

Last season saw him notch three top-ten finishes.

This year has been more challenging. He has missed nine cuts and has not finished inside the top ten yet.

However, there have been some encouraging signs lately. A T16 at Open de Espana was followed by finishing one shot ahead of Rory McIlroy at the DP World India Championship, where they played together on Sunday.

The result is expected to move him up to 113th in the Race to Dubai standings, giving him a solid chance to retain his card for 2026.

Still, it is a position few would have predicted back when he was part of Team Europe just four years ago.
