Leeds United were given a boost in their fight for Premier League survival on Wednesday evening after picking up an unlikely point at Old Trafford.
However, a negative has now become associated with the Whites, as data reveals that the worst striker in Premier League history from a statistical viewpoint emerged from their academy.
What’s the story?
Well, the unwanted record belongs to Andy Gray.
The 45-year-old, who rose from the youth ranks at Elland Road in 1995, is statistically the worst Premier League striker in history after scoring just 0.03 goals per game across four seasons in England’s top-flight.
Gray failed to score in 22 Premier League appearances for Leeds, while also failing to find the back of the net in eight outings for Nottingham Forest in England’s top-flight.
The man born in Harrogate – who won two caps for Scotland – scored just one goal in his 51 Premier League appearances, which came for Sunderland back in the 2005/06 campaign.
However, the Black Cats were relegated that season with just 15 points to their name.
Second to Gray in the worst Premier League goals-to-games charts is another former Sunderland striker in Jozy Altidore, who scored just two goals in 69 Premier League appearances to give himself a scoring rate of 0.05 goals per 90 minutes.
Leeds United could still have a successful Gray in the Premier League
Interestingly, Gray’s son – Archie Gray – could still bring success to Leeds in the Premier League despite his father’s struggles in Yorkshire.

Victor Orta – Director of Football at Elland Road – has likened the 16-year-old sensation to Sergio Aguero, with the likes of Dan James adding that he could become one of the best footballers in Europe.
Speaking to La Media Inglesa, Orta said: “In the South America Under-20 tournament Agüero scored ten or 12 goals or something like that, you could see he was different. Archie gives me the same feeling.”
Therefore, despite Gray struggling to find much success for Leeds in the Premier League, his son could become a star for the Whites if he fulfils his vast potential.
