Leeds United released Cameron Borthwick-Jackson from his season-long loan this week.
Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has referred to left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson as “crap” on Twitter.
The 20-year-old joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Manchester United in August but has had his deal terminated after a disappointing first six months at Elland Road.
Borthwick-Jackson only managed six appearances in all competitions, and hadn’t played in the Championship since his debut back on August 12 against Preston North End.
He was one of only two British players signed by Director of Football Victor Orta last summer, with Everton loanee Matthew Pennington also struggling for regular football in West Yorkshire.
The vast majority of Orta’s pre-season acquisitions came from abroad and this was put to Whelan on Twitter today.
Leeds have signed four players on permanent deals this month – Aapo Halme, Yosuke Ideguchi, Laurens de Bock and Oliver Sarkic, who earned a full contract after spending the first six months at United on loan.
None of those are British or had any experience in English football prior to their arrival, so it doesn’t seem like Orta plans on signing anymore British talent.
