Is Elland Road becoming a fortress for Leeds United again?
Former Leeds United defender Ben Parker has told Radio Yorkshire that the biggest positive for him this season is a renewed sense of optimism at Elland Road.
Leeds are one of the Championship’s form sides at the moment as Garry Monk’s troops sit 11th in England’s second tier.
It is the 38-year-old’s first season at Whites manager and an improvement at home is one of the most noticeable aspects of his tenure thus far.
Under Uwe Rosler and later Steve Evans, United managed just seven wins at Elland Road last term, but Monk has already secured three home victories in six league outings this season.
Beating Barnsley 2-1 before the international break was Leeds’ fourth successive win at home in all competitions.
It would be fair to say that Monk has restored an element of fun about travelling to Elland Road again for United fans, and that is certainly the view of Parker, who spent seven years at the Yorkshire club.
Asked by Radio Yorkshire how much of a difference the Whites fans can have on their team, Parker said: “It’s massive. The biggest thing the fans have been crying out for is entertainment.
“You don’t want to be paying all this money to come and be bored for two hours on a Saturday afternoon.
“The biggest positive for me is actually looking forward to coming down to Elland Road. It’s been ages since that’s happened.”
Leeds visit Derby County on Saturday, before Monk’s side aim for a fifth straight win at Elland Road the following week by hosting Wigan Athletic.
