Leeds striker is now their one and only option up front.
Leeds United’s Chris Wood celebrates
Leeds United striker Chris Wood has a phenomenal record this season, netting 22 Championship goals.
He is the division’s top scorer, and on course to potentially reach the milestone of 30 if he can finish the season strongly.
His rise is highlighted by his stop start opening season for the club, which saw him struggle with injuries in the middle of the campaign, and play under two different managers.
One year ago today, then boss Steve Evans issued Wood with a warning, that he would have to fight for his place in the Leeds starting XI.
Three months later Mirco Antenucci was released by the club, and while Doukara remains, he is viewed more as a utility player in attack rather than an out an out forward.
The fact Evans felt the need to lay down the gauntlet to Wood and challenge him to beat those two out spoke volumes about where the New Zealand striker’s season was at.
A year on and Wood is Leeds’ one and only striker, with summer Marcus Antonsson failing to win over new head coach Garry Monk and prove himself as a credible option.

He has also largely shaken off his injury troubles, although did miss their recent 1-1 draw with Fulham, but there have been no extended absences like last season, and he is more important to the club than ever.
