Leeds United sold Paudie O’Connor on Tuesday and the young centre-back will be excited about a friendly with Liverpool on July 14.

Bradford City snapped up the Irishman on a three-year deal after impressing at Valley Parade on loan during the second half of last season.

The 21-year-old, who signed for Leeds in 2017, made four Championship appearances for the Whites and it’ll be interesting to see how he does against Jurgen Klopp’s side next month.

O’Connor will want to face the newly-crowned European champions at full strength in a bid to test himself against the continent’s finest but, unfortunately, a number of heavy hitters won’t be available for Liverpool.

Roberto Firmino is on international duty with Brazil at the Copa America, while Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, of Egypt and Senegal respectively, could be at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The semi-finals of that competition – which kicks off on Friday – fall on the same date as Liverpool’s visit to Bradford but, even if Egypt and Senegal don’t make it that far, Salah and Mane will be given extended holidays.

City boss Gary Bowyer has a lot of confidence in the young stalwart, who finished last season as the Bantams’ captain despite being only 21, but he couldn’t prevent the club from being relegated into League Two.
