Leeds United are reportedly interested in two Ostersunds players, and now a former Whites player could be set to line up alongside the pair.

Marcelo Bielsa the head coach

With Fotboll Direkt reporting at the start of the month that Marcelo Bielsa is interested in both Hosam Aiesh and Dino Islamovic, Leeds fans would be forgiven for keeping one eye on Ostersunds’ fortunes over the coming months as the Championship side await their first signing of the summer.

It remains to be seen if Leeds confirm their interest with a bid for either player in the coming weeks. But it appears that some Whites fans may have been given another potential reason to follow the Swedish club in the meantime.

And that reason is that Ian Burchnall’s men appear to have taken Alex Purver on trial, with the former Whites midfielder taking part in a training game against Sundsvall this week.

And in comments reported by Fotboll Direkt, it was Purver who was singled out for praise by Burchnall following the game – seemingly hinting that he may have been the most impressive player on show in the training game.

Ian Burchnall, head coach of Ostersunds FK cheers to the fans after the Allsvenskan match between Ostersunds FK and GIF Sundsvall at Jamtkraft Arena on June 01, 2019 in Ostersund, Sweden.

“I think Alex Purver in the midfield did well. He also played many minutes, he hasn’t played for a while. He got through 90 minutes in a good way,” he said.

Purver was on Leeds’ books until the 2017 summer window when he joined Guiseley permanently. He scored three goals this past season as they finished 19th in National League North, but it now appears that he could be in contention to move to the top flight in Sweden.

Should the midfielder earn a contract, it will be interesting to see how he gets on alongside two players reportedly on Bielsa’s radar this summer. The 23-year-old will do extremely well to make the Whites rue the decision to let him go two years ago, but perhaps his fortunes will help Leeds make their mind up about whether to pursue Aiesh and Islamovic or not.
