Stephen Elliott has suggested on Twitter that Sunderland should make a move for Leeds United youngster Sam Greenwood.

Greenwood joined Leeds from Arsenal in the summer transfer window, as announced on the Gunners’ official website in August 2020.

The 18-year-old striker joined the Premier League club from Sunderland in July 2018, and played for the Gunners at the Under-18 and Under-23 levels.

The youngster was in action for Leeds in their Premier League 2 game against Sunderland at the Academy of Light on Monday.

The striker scored a hat-trick for the Leeds Under-23 side against their Sunderland counterparts, as Mark Jackson’s team won 3-1, as reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post.

Former Sunderland and Republic of Ireland international forward Elliott has suggested on Twitter that the Black Cats should sign Greenwood on loan from Leeds if he is not going to get much playing time in the first team at the Whites this season.

Leeds United stay

Sunderland are a big club who will be aiming to win promotion from League One this season.

While Greenwood would be in a very competitive environment at the Stadium of Light, one suspects that Leeds did not sign the striker this summer to loan him out.

It is unlikely that the Whites will let the youngster leave on loan this summer.
