Celtic totally dominated Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi final yesterday.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha
Former Hoops striker Andy Walker sat down for an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, broadcast at 9:10 am on Monday April 24th, and highlighted the enormity of the task that Pedro Caixinha faces ahead of him as Rangers manager.
The Portuguese was surely well aware of how much work needed to be done at Ibrox, when he was appointed as manager of the Glasgow giants last month, with such a huge gulf in points between his side and Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Whilst Brendan Rodgers’ side go from strength to strength, and remain on course for a historic treble, the Gers remain in transition, and it will take a monumental effort from Caixinha and his staff during the summer if they are to turn their team back into title contenders.
And Walker, who spent six years at Parkhead over the course of two separate spells with the club, shared something that will have made the Rangers boss realise just how much work needs to be done at Ibrox, when speaking to Sky Sports:
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers
“The fact that his (Caixinha) assistant came to him yesterday before kick-off, and said that the players were too uptight, is an astonishing observation to make. So I think he (Caixinha) realises he has got a huge job on his hands.”
The 46-year-old really will have his work cut-out, in his attempts to bring glory back to Ibrox, especially with the huge advantage Celtic currently have over them from a financial aspect.
He will have to be incredibly smart in his recruitment, and think of new and innovative ways in which to close the gap on the Hoops.
Rangers do have a chance of salvaging some sort of pride, however, when they welcome their bitter rivals to Ibrox on Saturday, where a win for Caixinha’s men would end Celtic’s hopes of finishing the season unbeaten in the league.
