Glasgow Rangers have struggled upon their return tot he Scottish Premiership, and currently sit 33 points adrift of Celtic.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily show at 11:05 on Tuesday March 14th, former Celtic striker Andy Walker shared his belief that Rangers are behind his former club and Aberdeen in terms of squad strength, disputing claims made by new Gers boss Pedro Caixinha that they in fact have the best squad in the league.
The Portuguese was officially appointed as the new man in charge at Ibrox yesterday, and he has a serious amount of work to do if he is to help his side close the gap on Brendan Rodgers’ side over the upcoming year or so.
And Walker, who scored 67 goals for Celtic over the course of two separate spells with the club, highlighted the size of the task that awaits the new Rangers boss, when speaking on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily show:
“Celtic have got the best squad in Scotland. Aberdeen have got the second best. And right now, Rangers are competing with Hearts and St Johnstone to make sure they finish third, and I think that would be a decent season for Rangers. All that ridiculous hype that you had about Rangers going for the title was completely unrealistic. Caixinha has got a hell of a job there to try and pull back Celtic.”

In all fairness to Walker, he actually predicted that the Gers would finish in third position, all the way back in August, when writing a column for Sky Sports, so at least he has been consistent with his opinion rather than purely reactionary.
With eight points separating the Ibrox side and second placed Aberdeen, they will surely be consigned to missing out on a top two finish, and must focus on maintaining their place in third spot.
And then the real work will begin over the summer, as their new manager looks to bring change, and help his side embark on a revolution that their fans will hope brings success back to the club.
