Rangers are expected to appoint their third new manager – replacing caretaker Graeme Murty – since Waburton left Ibrox 14 months ago.

Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton has responded to Jim White’s suggestion that there has been a ‘spectacular lack of progress’ at Ibrox following his departure last year.
Rangers are expected to appoint their second permanent boss and third overall this summer, having undergone difficult spells under Pedro Caixinha and current incumbent, caretaker Graeme Murty.

The Gers were third in the table – level on points with second-placed Aberdeen – at the time of Warburton’s sacking, a place below where they are now – again, with the same points tally as the Dons.
But when asked to comment on his old side’s struggles without him, Warburton told Talksport: “No, I think that’s been more than well documented.
“We were in the middle of a project at Rangers, David (Weir), Frank (McParland), myself and the other staff, and it was cut short put it that way. You know the true situation and that’s frustrating.
“But it’s a magnificent club and our aim would have been to get Rangers back into Europe and competing well as quickly as possible and then moving up the table as high as possible. Rangers needs to be back at the very top of Scottish football, that’s the aim. I keep hearing about closing the gap – I think true Rangers people will tell you they want to be above and leading the summit so to speak.
“I hope going forward they get positive news but we were very disappointed at what happened, was it 13/14 months ago now.”

Shortly after his departure from Ibrox, Warburton was appointed manager of Nottingham Forest, where he reunited again with Weir – his number two – and McParland – director of football.
However, the trio lasted less than ten months at the City Ground, losing their jobs on New Year’s eve.
