Everton are heavily linked with a move for the Swansea City man.

Michael Ball has revealed on Twitter that he is a fan of Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson, but added that his £50 million price-tag is “mad”.

Swansea, according to BBC Sport, will not let the 27-year-old leave for anything less than £50 million after rejecting a £40 million bid from Everton this week.

The former Tottenham ace scored nine Premier League goals and set up another 13 last season to establish himself as the Swans’ best player.

If he joins the Toffees for that amount, Ronald Koeman will have spent over £150 million this summer and Ball says “overspending” is key if you want Champions League football.

Although the former Everton man believes that Sigurdsson’s price-tag is madness, Ball admits he is a big fan of the Iceland star nonetheless.

Ball is right. If Everton want a top-four finish then Koeman must speculate to accumulate, but failure to reach the Champions League next season could and probably should result in the Dutchman’s dismissal from Goodison Park.
