One former Everton player has claimed that Liverpool are in talks with him as he considers a move to Anfield.

This summer has been quiet for Arne Slot’s Liverpool with the club yet to pull off a first team signing but they are close to pulling off the signing of an academy starlet.

Sources have told HITC that the Reds are set to raid Chelsea’s academy for the signing of the highly rated youngster Rio Ngumoha, who is just 15 years of age but made an impact for the Blues’ under 18s.

For the first team they have been quiet, however it now appears that the Reds are closing in on a coaching appointment but it may not be a popular one.

Ex-Everton defender confirms talks with Liverpool

Since retiring from football in 2016, former Everton and Ajax defender John Heitinga has opened up on Liverpool’s interest in the former defender.

Last season, the 40-year-old was assistant manager to David Moyes and the pair seemed to do well together before the Scotsman’s time at the Hammers came to an end.

Speaking to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Heitinga confirmed that talks had been had with the Reds over a potential move to Anfield this summer.

“The only thing I can say now is that I have been approached and that my agent Rob Jansen and I are in talks,” Heitinga said.

David Moyes was a big fan of Heitinga

During September of last year, after the Hammers won the Conference League in May, Moyes brought in the former Dutch defender and was full of praise for him.

“John is someone I have known for a long time,” Moyes told West Ham’s club channels. “He has gained some very good experience since beginning his coaching career in the Ajax Academy and working his way up to their first-team.

“John, Mark and Henry will each bring experience in different areas and complement the strengths we already have in the coaching team alongside Billy, Kevin and Xavi.”

Adding Premier League experience to Arne Slot’s coaching staff could well be a very smart move as the former Feyenoord manager gets his feet under the table at Anfield.
