Jamie Carragher has apologised for turning down the chance to move to Ibrox with Glasgow Rangers on the Greatest Game podcast.

Carragher was interviewing former Rangers boss Ally McCoist, when it was revealed by the Light Blues legend that he once tried to bring Carragher to Ibrox.

When McCoist learned that Carragher would be leaving Liverpool, he tried to talk him out of retirement and bring him up to Rangers.

However, his powers of persuasion were not strong enough to convince Carragher out of punditry.

“You talk about your time being the wrong time at Rangers, but do you think if you had brought an experienced centre-back up from the Premier League it could have helped you?” Carragher questioned.

And McCoist responded: “It would have been a great help for me! But unfortunately the one I went for hit me with a heat seeking custard pie mate.

“I tried to get the lad Carragher, he was at Liverpool at the time. Everybody was talking me off him! They said his legs have gone, he canny run any more. I said he’ll do us a job and they said no chance Ally forget about him.

“Anyway, I went for him and sadly he went for TV, Sky Sports and the rest is history.

“Well I can only apologise,” the Liverpool legend laughed.

In the end, not signing Carragher hasn’t proven too costly for Rangers.

Rangers have risen up the leagues quickly and have now completed an unbeaten season.

Although Carragher turned them down, another Liverpool legend in the form of Steven Gerrard has been a major driving force in their revival.

Gerrard is quickly becoming an icon at Rangers, and looks to be building a very exciting team with the Light Blues right now.
