Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 1-0 win.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers
Davie Provan believes that Brendan Rodgers made a mistake when selecting his team for Celtic’s clash with Aberdeen on Saturday, The Scottish Sun reports.
A sublime Tom Rogic goal handed the Hoops a win that saw them extend their unbeaten start to the season in the Scottish Premiership as well as their lead at the top of the table.
Tom Rogic scored the only goal of the game
But Provan has suggested that, with a crucial Champions League tie ahead next week, Rodgers should have picked a much weaker team for the trip to Pittodrie.
“If I was Brendan Rodgers I’d have rested all of Celtic’s main men at Pittodrie yesterday ahead of the Borussia Monchengladbach game,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“Yeah, Derek McInnes would have claimed disrespect and travelling Hoops fans wouldn’t have been happy, but Rodgers’ side is already in the winner’s enclosure where the title is concerned.
“Tuesday night’s game is more important with a shot at the Europa League up for grabs. Fresh legs will be required.”

While Provan is concerned about the strength of the side that faced the Dons, Rodgers will surely argue that the title is a long way off being won, and thus, it made sense to pick a team that was capable of beating one of their main rivals.
And while that victory may have an impact on some players’ fitness ahead of their trip to Germany, Rodgers will surely also argue that the confidence that came from the win over Derek McInnes’ men will provide a massive boost to Celtic’s chances in Monchengladbach.
