Celtic have been linked with Liverpool’s Joe Allen and Aston Villa’s Scott Sinclair in the summer transfer window.
David Hay has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic may not be able to sign Joe Allen or Scott Sinclair in the summer transfer window.
Scottish Premiership giants Celtic have been linked with moves for Liverpool midfielder Allen and Aston Villa winger Sinclair.
According to The Daily Record, the Bhoys want to sign Allen from the Reds, while The Daily Mail has credited Brendan Rodgers’s side with an interest in Sinclair.
Former Celtic midfielder and manager Hay has suggested that the Glasgow giants may not be able to sign either of their (reported) targets due to their respective wage demands.
“I am sure that the manager will have a couple of players in mind and he has been linked already with Joe Allen and then Scott Sinclair, but even although we are talking about the club going the extra mile in terms of salaries, you do still have to be realistic about players who are earning a living in England,” Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.
“It is a different ballgame entirely in terms of finances and even for a guy like Allen who has a previous working relationship with Rodgers, the bottom line is that money talks.”
Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and could feature in the Champions League next season.
However, the Bhoys cannot compete financially with even some of the big clubs in the Championship in England.
However, new Celtic boss Rodgers is a big name, and perhaps he could convince Allen or Sinclair to move to Celtic Park in the summer transfer window.
The Bhoys will start the 2016-17 Scottish Premiership campaign as favourites to win the league title.
