Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers seemingly wanted the ex-Celtic midfielder four years ago.

Scott Robertson has told The Record that Scott Allan wanted to join Rangers before moving to Celtic.

Allan, a boyhood Rangers fan, signed for the Hoops in 2015, but left this month to re-sign for Hibernian in a deal that was officially done back in January.

The 27-year-old only managed 13 Premiership appearances for Celtic and hadn’t made a senior squad since last July.

Robertson played with Allan at Easter Road, and he claims that his former ‘immense’ team-mate was all set to join the Ibrox outfit four years ago, only for the Leith club to block the transfer.

He told The Record: “Everybody remembers that 4-0 game at Easter Road when Hibs battered Rangers and Scott was immense that day. A lot of what was good about Hibs that season was all down to Scott.

“There was always speculation about him getting a move. Hibs blocked a potential transfer to Rangers when they turned down bids for him.

“Celtic then came calling and he was joining the Scottish champions with the chance of a crack at Champions League football. It was an opportunity that might never have come round again.”

In hindsight, Celtic did their Old Firm rivals a favour by signing him.

Allan is by no means a poor footballer, but he never looked cut out to be the quality that the Bhoys needed at Paradise and although he might’ve fared better with the Gers originally, he would have found it hard long term.

The former Scotland Under-21 international, uncapped at senior level, won the Premiership title with Celtic in Ronny Deila’s last season in charge.
