The Celtic boss was hardly proven wrong to offload Gary Mackay-Steven.

Celtic comfortably beat Aberdeen 2-0 on Sunday to restore a nine-point cushion over second-placed Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
One of the subplots to the Hoops’ visit to Pittodrie revolved around Gary Mackay-Steven and his post-Celtic form.
The 27-year-old looks to be enjoying his football again after joining the Dons last summer, and had netted six goals in his last 10 games for Derek McInnes’s side prior to the visit of his former club.

Mackay-Steven, signed by former Celtic boss Ronny Deila in 2015, had a chance to show Brendan Rodgers that he made a mistake in selling him, but the opportunity passed him by.
The Scottish winger did cause Mikael Lustig a number of problems, with the Swede being sent off for two fouls on Mackay-Steven, but beyond that he did very little and the Celtic boss is unlikely to be regretting the decision to move him on.

One moment in particular summed up Mackay-Steven’s afternoon, when the former Bhoy failed to pick out an unmarked Stevie May in the box in what was a fine chance for Aberdeen.
Six goals in 10 games is a very decent return for a winger, but impressing against Celtic would have sent a much stronger message to his former manager.
Being honest, he could have scored a hat-trick yesterday and it still wouldn’t make him good enough for Celtic, who have an abundance of quality wingers, but a solid performance might have given him peace of mind at the very least and, well, he blew it.
