Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers won’t get a war of words with Celtic after Dave King comments, claims Davie Hay.
Former Celtic ace Davie Hay has told The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers chairman Dave King is “ignorant” to the way in which the Bhoys are run if he thinks that his controversial comments would “destabilise” the Scottish champions.
The Rangers man made headlines by suggesting that Celtic should have done more in the four-year period that the Gers were in the lower leagues.
King went on to claim that the Hoops – who finished 39 points ahead of the Ibrox side last season, and won a domestic treble without losing a match – are not that far ahead of the Gers on a footballing basis.
Bhoys duo Brendan Rodgers and Leigh Griffiths both responded to the comments in different ways.
But Hay, who spent six years at Parkhead as a player and another four as manager, says that King will not successful if he wants to draw the Premiership champs into a war of words.
“I’m sure that Rangers, and Dave King in particular, would love a war of words to try and destabilise Celtic, but if he thinks that he will achieve it, then he is obviously ignorant of the way that Celtic are run as a club these days,” he told The Glasgow Evening Times.
“Yes, Leigh Griffiths had a little pop back as you might expect, but there is absolutely no way that Rodgers would allow the words of King to affect his team in any way.
“Right now, both he and his players will be fully focused on their preparations for the Champions League qualifiers, because they know how important it is to the club.”
