Clinton Morrison wants to see his former Republic of Ireland teammate Lee Carsley given the job of Birmingham City manager on a permanent basis.
Carsley took charge of his first game as caretaker boss for the Blues at the weekend, ending a five-game losing streak in the Championship with a 1-1 draw at Derby County.
The 43-year-old has been in charge on an interim basis since September 16 following the sacking of Harry Redknapp and Morrison believes he is the man for the job.
Coach Lee Carsley looks on during an England Under 21 training session at St George’s Park.
“I roomed with him. He’s such a laid back character and his knowledge of football is very good,” the ex-Birmingham striker said on Channel 5’s The Championship programme.
“For me personally I’d want him to be the Birmingham City manager. I think he’s good enough.”
Aitor Karanka during his time as manager of Middlesbrough.
Carsley is currently the 9/2 fourth favourite with Skybet to be handed the role, behind Aitor Karanka (15/8), Steve McClaren (3/1) and Steve Cotterill (7/2).
The retired midfielder has mainly worked in the backroom staff at clubs such as Coventry City, Sheffield United and Manchester City since hanging up his boots.
However, Carsley has been caretaker at Coventry in the past and also had a short stint as the number one at Brentford and clearly Morrison think he is ready to take the step up at St Andrew’s.
