Former Aston Villa player and talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has heaped praise on Patrick Bamford following his hat-trick in Leeds’ 3-0 win on Friday evening.

The 58-year-old told talkSPORT: ‘Watch Patrick last night, he is worthy of being a Premier League player. All three of his goals, he’s got quick feet, he sticks the ball in the corner.’

It’s good to hear somebody with connections to the losing side find the time to praise a member of the opposition who gave Dean Smith’s side a hammering.

According to Transfermarkt, Cascarino made 12 appearances for the Villans, scoring four goals.

Even if he was the most Aston Villa-biased pundit around, it would surely still be hard for him not to praise Bamford after last night.

The ex-Chelsea striker – who Leeds signed from Middlesbrough for a reported £10 million – completed bossed things at Villa Park.

WhoScored shows he had a whopping nine shots, with three of them of course finding the net.

Bamford also showcased his creative talents with two key passes, on what was perhaps the best night of his career so far from a personal aspect.

The 27-year-old now has six Premier League goals to his name this season, sitting pretty among the division’s best marksmen including Heung-min Son, Harry Kane, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Mohamed Salah.

He is enjoying a real purple patch right now under Marcelo Bielsa, and for Leeds’ sake, long may it continue.
