The former Aston Villa star is a big fan of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal and Aston Villa ace Paul Merson spoke to reporters whilst at Molineux for a charity event for Steve Bull’s foundation, and declared his love for Wolves, insisting that he hopes they gain promotion this season, as quoted by the Express & Star.
The Black Country outfit have been sensational this season under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo, and currently sit comfortably at the top of the Championship table, with a two point advantage over second placed Sheffield United.

The Portuguese deserves great credit for the manner in which he has managed to galvanise the Wolves squad, following their totally underwhelming Championship campaign last term.
And Merson, who made 145 appearances for the Villans, raved about Wolves as a football club, when speaking to reporters, sharing his desire for them to gain promotion this season, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“I have known Bully a long time so when they asked me to come up and help out it wasn’t a problem at all. It’s great to help them and great for me personally to be back at Molineux. I got a standing ovation here one day when I played for Villa in a pre-season friendly. I came off and everybody stood up – I’ll never forget it. If you didn’t like playing here you were struggling – what a stadium, what a pitch. And I’d love to see them go up because they have been waiting a long time. You talk about loyal supporters, these are loyal supporters. And they deserve it.”

Nuno’s side are currently in the midst of a two week lay-off due to the international break, and return to action on Saturday November 18th with a trip to Berkshire to take on Reading.
The Wolves fans will be desperate for all three points, and judging by Paul Merson’s words, so will he.
