Eduardo da Silva remains grateful for the support Arsenal showed him during his time at the Emirates Stadium spent battling back from a horrific leg break.
Ex-Arsenal striker Eduardo has taken to Twitter to thank Gunners fans for their support on the seventh anniversary of his horrific leg break at Birmingham City.
Eduardo, 31, suffered a broken fibula and a dislocated ankle following a tackle from Birmingham defender Martin Taylor during the 2007-08 season which left his teammates visibly distressed well after he was stretchered off in the eighth-minute of their clash at St Andrew’s.
With the match ending in a 2-2 draw, the incident is often cited as the cause of Arsenal failing to maintain their lead in the Premier League title race, and Arsene Wenger even initially called for the red-carded Taylor to receive a lifetime ban.
Eduardo would go on to make his comeback 12 months later, but the Croatia international never quite managed to rediscover the form he showcased during his first half-season at the club before leaving for Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2010.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian-born front man, who is now back in his homeland with Flamengo, remains grateful for the support he received during his fitness battle at the Emirates Stadium, writing:
In total, Eduardo managed 21 goals in 67 appearances for Arsenal following his £6.7 million arrival from Dinamo Zagreb in 2007, but one has to wonder how much more productive he could have been without such a major setback.
