Russian international Andrey Arshavin has admitted that he may hang his boots up at the end of the current campaign for Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Once the most expensive player in Arsenal’s history, Andrey Arshavin’s career has stalled badly and he may be ready to call time after this season.
Despite being only 33 and potentially having several more years to come in the game, Arshavin’s motivation seems to be lacking.
In 2009, after an impressive Euro 2008, Arshavin signed for Arsenal for £15 million, which was a club record at the time.
Arshavin would make 105 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 23 times, but his inconsistent stay would be marred by bouts of depression, which manifested themselves in an apparent lack of desire to play for the North London side.
Having returned to Zenit initially on loan in 2012 and then permanently a year later, Arshavin is now considering finding a new career path.
“I could even quit next year, I don’t know.
“The one thing I do know is that I won’t play a farewell match. I don’t understand why players go in for such a show of vanity.”
