Emmanuel Frimpong has thanked Arsenal and Wolves supporters for their help during his career after announcing his retirement.

Frimpong has battled serious knee injuries and has been a free agent since his spell with Swedish side Ermis Aradippou ended in 2017.

The midfielder was once part of Arsenal’s FA Youth Cup winning team in 2010.

Months later he suffered an ACL injury, before eventually working his way back to the first team.

He was loaned out to Wolves in early 2012, and began brightly, before suffering a second ACL injury.

After this, Frimpong’s performances never quite reached the same level, understandably considering his injuries.

After loan spells at Charlton and then Fulham he signed with Barnsley, before leaving to join Russian side FC Ufa months later.

The Ghana international and ex-England youth representative spent three years in Russia and then Sweden, with injuries catching up with him.

Releasing a statement last night, after 18 months without a club due to another knee injury, Frimpong formalised his retirement.

He thanked Arsenal and Wolves fans for their support, and said he simply no longer wished to play through the pain.
