There are only three certainties in life: death, taxes, and the fact that Granit Xhaka will never win over Arsenal fans indefinitely.
Fourteen months on from Xhaka cursing at the home supporters inside the Emirates Stadium, he’s in trouble with the Gunners’ faithful yet again.
The Switzerland international was issued a red card in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat by Burnley for grabbing Ashley Westwood by the throat.
It came at a time in the match when Mikel Arteta’s side were seriously threatening a breakthrough and the Clarets went on to score the winner later in the game.
Xhaka, for obvious reason, is now public enemy number one with the fanbase again, but it also seems like one legendary figure can’t stomach the former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder.
According to Patrice Evra, Thierry Henry used to refuse to watch Xhaka – before he was stripped of the captaincy – lead out the Arsenal players prior to a match.
He said live on Sky Sports, after the defeat by Burnley: “Thierry Henry one day invited me to his house. He said ‘Come Patrice we’re going to watch the Arsenal game’. He turned on the tv and the first image we saw on the screen was Xhaka leading Arsenal out, being the captain.
“Thierry turned off the tv and I said ‘what happened?’. He said ‘I can’t watch my team and Xhaka being the captain of my team.”
From an Arsenal perspective, you know it’s bad if God himself turns his back on you.
This was the latest in a pretty long line of stupid on-the-field incidents from Xhaka and with January on the horizon, it’ll be interesting to see whether Arteta and Edu keep him or try to cash in their chips.
