Patrice Evra set to join West Ham following Marseille sacking but surely Everton, who are also interested, need him much more?
Patrice Evra is set to sign on a free transfer for West Ham United at some point today (February 7), reports Sky Sports, a little under three months after being sacked by Marseille.
According to the BBC, Evra will join the Hammers until the end of the season and favours a move to East London despite interest from Everton.
West Ham manager David Moyes knows the left-back well with the pair having worked together at Manchester United when the former was in charge during the 2013/14 campaign.
Evra was dismissed by Marseille in November after lashing out at a fan the Frenchman claimed was abusing him before a Europa League clash with Vitoria, resulting in a ban that applies to all UEFA competitions until June 2018 – but does not stop the 36-year-old playing domestically, such as in the Premier League.
Yet while a reunion with Moyes seems to have tempted the defender, surely it is the Toffees that are more in need of support on the left side of defence?
That is because Cuco Martina has been filling in there – and has failed to impress – after an injury to Leighton Baines and there being no other natural fit in Sam Allardyce’s squad.
Moyes, however, already has two options in the role in Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku; although the latter is currently serving a six-game ban for spitting at Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell during an FA Cup clash.
