Newcastle United are on the verge of completing a season-long loan deal for Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham, according to the Daily Mail.

Due to Rafael Benitez’s close relationship with Blues technical director, Michael Emenalo, the Magpies manager has managed to secure a deal for a striker who greatly impressed at Bristol City in 2016/17.

Here is everything Newcastle fans need to know about their potential exciting new signing.

Eye for goal

Abraham is said to have been a prolific scorer throughout the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge after joining the club as a seven-year-old, but his stock really rose last term when he netted 26 goals in 48 matches in all competitions for the Robins.

Mature beyond his years

The teenager won’t be 20 until October this year and yet the way he conducts himself both on and off the pitch makes him seem far older. Focusing on the game has helped Abraham become a real team player, often playing as important a role in the buildup to a goal as he does in scoring it.

Outstanding positioning and pace

The real strength of the 19-year-old and the reason he has scored so many goals for City is his ability to read the game. Combining that with lightning quick runs to beat defenders has been a lethal combination.

Needs to improve physically

Despite well over six feet tall, Abraham’s best work is done running in behind and he needs to bulk up to not only improve the way he handles defenders, but also to utilise his height to be better in the air.

International future unclear

The forward’s performances at Ashton Gate quickly earned him his first Under-21 caps for England, but Nigeria are also keen on making him a full international for them as he qualifies because of his father’s heritage.
