Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Eric Garcia has agreed to join Barcelona, despite Manchester City’s best efforts to keep hold of him.
Indeed, Pep Guardiola and the board worked hard to make sure Garcia didn’t leave the club, but the centre-backs mind is seemingly made up, reaching a total agreement to join the La Liga giants.
It remains to be seen whether or not Garcia will join Barca this month or go on a free transfer in the summer, but Romano says he’s certain the transfer will go ahead once the elections at Camp Nou are finalised.
“We can confirm that Eric Garcia has a total agreement to join Barcelona this year, so we have to see only if he will join the club in January or if he joins in the summer as a free agent, but Eric Garcia wants to come back to Barcelona, his club, he wants to come back to Spain also.
“He has the total agreement also with personal terms, so everything is agreed also with his agent.
“Many times Pep Guardiola and all the board of Manchester City were trying to convince the guy to stay at Manchester City with a new contract, important wages and a great salary really.
“But Eric Garcia said no I want to go to Barcelona. It’s not a signed deal yet, just because Barcelona are waiting for the new president you know, the elections of Barcelona will change the future of Lionel Messi for sure as we said, but also many other deals for Barcelona, so when they have the new president they will decide also on signing Eric Garcia.
“They have an agreement with the player, so I am convinced Eric Garcia is going to join Barcelona this year.”
This isn’t a surprising development, after all, Garcia had been linked with a move away for quite some time, but it remains a big blow.
You don’t earn such admiration from Guardiola if you’re not a talented footballer, and the fact that Guardiola reportedly had big plans for him shows just how good he is.
Unfortunately, it seems as though City will soon have to say goodbye to another bright young talent.
We can only hope that this one doesn’t come back to haunt them in the same way Jadon Sancho’s departure has done.
