Alan Shearer has been giving his take on the VAR controversy in the Premier League match between Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the weekend, and he has brought Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag into the mix.
The Match of the Day pundit has noted how everyone was laughing at Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag recently for his comments about VAR.
The Newcastle United legend has said that now everyone will start looking at Ten Hag’s previous comments in a different light after what happened during Liverpool’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend.
Alan Shearer on Liverpool, VAR and Erik ten Hag
Shearer said on The Rest is Football podcast: “What this does, Gary, is that it throws chaos from now on going forward into VAR because whatever decision happens now, everyone is going to question it.
“I mean, can you remember, it was last week or the week before, Ten Hag was moaning that that was never offside when they actually drew the line?

“You can’t really argue with it.
“Now, everyone was laughing at him because of that.
“Now everyone is going to be thinking, ‘Hang on a minute, he said that it was never offside? Was he right?’
“That’s always going to be thrown at them now.”
What Erik ten Hag said after Manchester United match v Arsenal
Earlier this month, Manchester United lost 3-1 to Arsenal away from home at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the Premier League.
Alejandro Garnacho had a goal for the Red Devils ruled out due to offside.
After the match, Manchester United manager Ten Hag said that VAR did not use the right angle to judge it.
TalkSPORT quoted Ten Hag as saying: “You saw the game, but it’s no offside. Wrong angle.”
Liverpool lost to Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League this past Saturday.
It was a hugely controversial game.
Liverpool had two players sent off.
While not many would argue about the dismissal of midfielder Curtis Jones, the first yellow card that was shown to forward Diogo Jota was harsh.
The goal from Luis Diaz was ruled out because of a miscommunication between VAR and the on-field officials, but it was a perfectly legitimate goal.
Liverpool as a club are not happy at all.
