Emil Krafth has been speaking to Andy Sixsmith about all things Newcastle, including how the players reacted to their 5-1 defeat at Tottenham.
What’s the story?
Well, the Sweden international revealed that everybody has stepped things up a notch in training after the humiliating defeat to Spurs.
Krafth said: “We have to say sorry to the fans for the Spurs defeat. Afterwards, everyone was angry. But in training this week, everyone is super focused, everyone wants to play on Friday & do much better.”
Clearly, the Magpies are fully aware of how disappointing their performance was last time out, and are desperate to put it right.
With survival still yet to be secured, Newcastle have no other option than to roll their sleeves up and keep fighting.
The Magpies currently have 31 points to their name, putting them seven points above Burnley, who languish in 18th place in the Premier League.
However, the Clarets, and also Everton, have a game in hand over Eddie Howe’s side, so Newcastle cannot afford to become complacent.
Emil Krafth playing for Newcastle future
In our view, Krafth is playing for his future at Newcastle.
The 27-year-old has only made 11 Premier League starts this season, and his contract is set to expire in June 2023.
Therefore, this summer could be Newcastle’s last chance to receive a fee for the Swede, something they may consider seeing as he’s a fringe player.
Furthermore, after the Saudi Arabian takeover, Newcastle have the money to improve pretty much every department of their squad, so if Howe wants a new full-back, Howe is likely to get a new full-back.
With just eight Premier League games remaining, it’s time for Krafth to step up and prove himself to Howe, or he could be sold.
