Helsinborgs may be forced to sell reported Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers target Armin Gigovic to ease their financial concerns, director Joel Sandborg has admitted to Helsingborgs Dagblad.
Just three weeks ago, the dynamic young midfielder appeared to put an end to speculation linking him with a summer switch to the Emirates or Molineux.
“My focus is currently here in Sweden. I let my agent deal with the interest of other clubs. Chances are I will just stay with Helsingsborg,” Gigovic told Voetbal Nieuws.
But, with almost every club in Europe needing to raise cash during an era of unprecedented financial uncertainty, it seems that Gigovic will not have the final say on his future after all.
“With the (global situation), everyone understands that when we say that we cannot manage the finances ourselves and need outside help, the sale of ‘Gigo’ is definitely something that can help us,” Sandborg admits.
Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht recently had a £1.7 million bid rejected, while BT in June claimed that Gigovic also finds himself at the centre of a tug-of-war between Mikel Arteta and his Manchester City mentor Pep Guardiola.
Futbol Direkt linked Wolves with the fresh-faced Swede too, having spent much of the last two years luring some of the most under-the-radar young talents in Europe to Molineux.
