Union Berlin’s sporting director admitted that ‘everyone knows’ about Sebastian Andersson’s £4 million release-clause amid links with Celtic, Leeds United and Newcastle, while speaking to the Berliner Zeitung.

It is not every day that one of the most influential strikers in German football is available for a pocket-change sum.

But Andersson, a late-blooming Swedish international, insisted upon an affordable buy-out clause being included in his contract when he signed fresh terms with Union Berlin over the Christmas period.

After saving the Bundesliga’s smallest club from relegation with an impressive 12 goals in 2019/20, the 6ft 3ins Scandinavian could be rewarded with a move to Britain while at the peak of his powers.

“Everyone knows about the clause, either it is paid or not,” Ruhnert admitted.

BZ reported this week that Celtic and recently relegated Watford are set to make an approach.

Kicker, meanwhile, claimed last month that newly-promoted Leeds and West Brom were interested too, along with Newcastle, Bournemouth and Brentford.

Remarkably, seven of Andersson’s 12 Bundesliga goals were scored with his head this season.

The former Norrkoping and Kaiserslautern forward could perhaps the ideal man to solve Leeds’ problems at set-pieces and add another string to their already impressive bow.
