Rio Ferdinand has pointed out that Ralf Rangnick has picked up more points than Liverpool since he was appointed Manchester United boss, as he told Vibe with Five.

Yet when Man United get spoken about, he feels there seems to be a ‘Debbie Downer’ on the job Rangnick is doing, even though there is talk about how ‘Liverpool are flying’ and producing ‘Championship-winning’ form.

From the start of the season, whether it’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the dugout or Rangnick, there always seems to be some sort of drama attached to the Manchester-based club.

Rangnick has managed to pick up 25 points since the end of November and the interim boss has his side sitting in a Champions League place.

Former centre-back, Ferdinand, seemingly suggested that more respect needs to be put on the German’s name, as he aimed a jibe at Liverpool by using them as an example.

“There is really a Debbie Downer on Rangnick and Man United, at the moment,” said Ferdinand.

“Yes, I think the fixture list, whilst he has been there, has been favourable to Man United. But only Man City have picked up more points since he has come.

“They have picked up 28 points. Man United have picked up 25, so he can’t be doing as badly as it is spoken about in the media. In terms of points, he is a pass, at the moment.

“Everyone is saying ‘Liverpool are flying’. Liverpool, oh my God, it’s Championship-winning form now’. They haven’t had as many points in the bag as Rangnick since he has been here.”

The main reason why Liverpool are being bigged up in such a manner is that they are the only ones who can stop Manchester City’s Billion-pound machine.

Once again, it’s the Reds who are on their tails and if they beat Leeds United on Wednesday night, then they will move within three points of Pep Guardiola’s side.

Man United have slightly helped their bitter rivals out because their 4-2 win at Elland Road on Sunday has further dampened the mood in the Yorkshire camp.

Added with that, the noise around Jurgen Klopp and his players will go up even further if they beat Leeds and then lift the League Cup on Sunday at Wembley.
