Son Heung-min has labelled Harry Kane as ‘fantastic’ following his summer transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich.

The newly-appointed Tottenham captain claimed that ‘everybody has to take a step up’ in their careers following Harry Kane’s call to leave England’s top-flight for Germany’s top-tier, as he told Premier League Productions (19/08/23 at 2:30 pm).

The 30-year-old had 12 months left on his contract and he could have decided to stay put in north London and then sign for any team he wishes in 12 months’ time for nothing.

Many were left surprised that Kane didn’t go down that road, including Dimitar Berbatov who labelled it as ‘unfair’.

But the England captain clearly felt that he couldn’t turn down such a move to Bayern Munich, who win the Bundesliga title in their sleep, but are desperate to win the Champions League again.

Either way, Kane’s exit leaves the void of close to 30 Premier League goals being taken out of the Spurs side and Son thinks it’s time the rest of his teammates took ‘responsibility’.

“He is a fantastic player,” said Son. “But I think everybody has to take a step up. Football isn’t only a one-man sport. Football is about 11 or 20 players.

“So, everyone has to be ready and take a big responsibility. When you have a Harry Kane, you have a 20 or 30 goals guaranteed in your team.

“But I think everyone should take a big responsibility to do that (fill the void for Kane’s goals).”

Tottenham start life well after Kane’s exit

That’s two Premier League games Spurs have played following Kane’s exit and it’s fair to say that they haven’t missed their club-record goalscorer one bit.

Two games. Four goals and bundles and bundles of chances have been created. The only thing you would say is that if Kane was still here, then he would already be off the mark with, at least, a couple of goals.

It’s just a shame that the Spurs fans didn’t get to see Kane and James Maddison work their magic under Postecoglou’s style because it would have been a joy to watch.
